Marketing for electrical engineering companies that build, supply and maintain power equipment

Switchgear, drives, UPS, generators, transformers and power quality. Your next contract often starts with a facilities manager asking who maintains what you make, and today the answer is built almost entirely from suppliers' own pages.

Buyer question

“best UPS maintenance companies UK”

What came back

Seven UPS firms' own pages, one of which calls itself among the best. The only page titled as a list of the best UPS suppliers in the UK named a single firm: its own publisher.

Sources, by kind

  1. Own pageSuppliers describing themselves: 7
  2. ListA “best suppliers” page naming only its publisher: 1
  3. Review siteA review-platform page for one firm: 1

Our readingThe buyer asked for a judgement and got almost nothing but claims. Whichever firm an assistant names from this page, it names largely on that firm's own word.

Search results sampled 1 Oct 2026 through a search tool that runs from the US, not Google UK; one run; nine results. Not an assistant answer. Method on /how-we-measure. Firms described, not named.

Marketing for an electrical engineering company means getting the firm onto the shortlist when a buyer asks who to use, and counting the enquiries that follow. KS Media does this for UK switchgear, drives, UPS, generator, transformer and power quality firms with 10 to 249 staff. We record what your buyers are shown when they search or ask an AI assistant, and what those answers are built from, then write the pages and earn the outside mentions that put you on the list.

Who this is for

Firms that build, supply, service or refurbish LV and HV switchgear, variable speed drives, UPS systems, standby generators, transformers and power quality equipment, and the testing that goes with them. Typically 10 to 249 staff, selling service contracts and projects worth five figures or more.

The person asking about your work is often not an engineer. It is a facilities manager with a UPS contract up for renewal, an estates team at a hospital, an M&E contractor pricing a fit-out or a procurement lead with a framework to fill. They ask in plain words: who maintains this, who can test it, who repairs the old one.

Manufacturers and OEMs have their own page: industrial marketing for equipment manufacturers. Grid connections and battery storage are on grid and storage delivery.

What your buyers ask

On 1 October 2026 we ran eight buyer questions from this market, once each, and recorded every result in order:

  • UPS maintenance contract UK
  • best UPS maintenance companies UK
  • load bank testing UK
  • generator maintenance contract UK
  • power quality survey UK
  • switchgear retrofit UK
  • who repairs obsolete variable speed drives UK
  • HV maintenance contractor UK

Each one asks who to buy a service from, which is the question that ends in a quote. In our September dataset of 49 firms, switchgear firms were missing from five of their twelve buyer questions, and critical power firms from three of nine.

What the answers are made of

The eight questions returned 74 results. Sixty-five were firms describing themselves, on their own service pages or a manufacturer's. Four were public tender notices. Three were third parties naming a firm: a review-platform page for one UPS company, and two trade magazine articles about one multinational manufacturer.

Power quality surveys came back ten out of ten own pages; obsolete drive repair and HV maintenance, nine out of nine. No directory, register or trade body appeared on any of the eight.

Buyer question

“switchgear retrofit UK”

What came back

A multinational manufacturer's announcement of a retrofit framework ranked first, and the only two trade press results reported that same announcement. Between them sat five independent switchgear specialists and two more manufacturers, each on its own page.

Sources, by kind

  1. Own pageIndependent specialists describing themselves: 5
  2. MakerManufacturers' own pages: 3
  3. Trade pressArticles about the same manufacturer's announcement: 2

Our readingTrade press carried the multinational and nobody carried the specialists, so an assistant looking for corroboration finds it only for the firm a buyer least needs help finding.

Search results sampled 1 Oct 2026 through a search tool that runs from the US, not Google UK; one run; ten results. Not an assistant answer. Method on /how-we-measure. Firms described, not named.

When every result is self-description, nobody holds the question. A specialist that adds one independent source to a clear page of its own has something no rival on that page has.

The third parties that count in this niche

Four kinds of source can say something about you that you have not said yourself. Fees are as published on each body's own pages on 1 October 2026; the full table, with a link to each source, covers every register and trade body we checked.

AMPS, the generating set and power systems trade association, suits generator and power systems firms. Fees run by turnover, excluding VAT: £1,815 a year at £1m to £5m, £2,118 at £5m to £20m. Its public directory holds about 610 members.

BEAMA represents manufacturers of electrotechnical and energy infrastructure equipment. It does not publish its fee. Its public directory lists 166 members by product category.

ECA suits electrotechnical contractors, high voltage included. Contractor fees are on enquiry; its Commercial Associate tier for suppliers is £725, £1,450 or £2,900 a year by turnover, plus VAT. Its Find a Member search has a High Voltage filter.

Trade press is the fourth. On 1 October it appeared on one of the eight questions, writing about a multinational.

None of the three directories appeared in any of the 74 results. A listing starts to count when something an assistant reads points to it: your own page stating the membership and linking the entry, or a trade article that mentions it.

What the Diagnostic and the Engine do for a power equipment firm

The Pipeline Diagnostic takes ten working days. We write five questions your buyers ask, in their words, such as the maintenance contract in your region or the obsolete range you still repair, and run them through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Google's AI answers and screenshot each answer with its date. You get who is shortlisted instead and why, the faults on your site, the pipeline gap in enquiries and a 90-day plan. It is £2,500 at the founding rate to 31 December 2026, credited in full against month one of the Engine.

The Pipeline Engine runs from £3,000 a month, three months then rolling. It re-runs the same five questions monthly and writes the pages a facilities manager needs to brief a purchase: what a maintenance contract covers, how a load bank test runs, how long a retrofit outage lasts. It makes your firm's description consistent everywhere it appears, and gets you into the sources above with links from your own pages. Each month you see what the assistants said beside the enquiries that arrived.

Common questions

Marketing for power equipment firms: questions

Getting the firm onto the shortlist when a buyer asks who to use, then counting the enquiries that follow. For a switchgear, UPS or generator firm that means knowing what buyers type, what comes back, and what the answer is built from, then writing the pages and earning the third-party mentions that change it.

Often not an engineer: facilities managers renewing a contract, estates teams at hospitals and universities, M&E contractors pricing a job, procurement leads filling a framework. Three of the nine results for generator maintenance contract UK on 1 October 2026 were public sector tender notices.

Not on its own. All three run public member directories, but none of them appeared in the 74 results we recorded for eight power equipment and critical power questions on 1 October 2026. Membership helps when something an assistant reads points to it: your own page with the membership stated and linked, or a trade article.

Because ranking through your own page is self-description, and on 1 October 2026 that was what nearly every result was made of: 65 of 74. A position built only on your own words lasts until a rival writes a clearer page or a third party names somebody else. Corroboration is what makes a position hold.

The snapshot is free. The Pipeline Diagnostic is £2,500 at the founding rate for the first three clients to 31 December 2026, ten working days, credited in full against month one of the Engine. The Pipeline Engine runs from £3,000 a month, three months then rolling.
